I bought this Brita water bottle on Saturday (during my 5 million errands) and it has not left my side. I’m in love with it. It filters tap water into clean delicious water. I’m obsessed. (Family – you’ll probably be getting one for Christmas)
Sunday was an AWESOME day. I woke up nice and early (5:15am) to lead the second NYRR Long Training Run. I had a blast! The 15 miles went by so fast. I have to say my group was the best. 8:30 pace Group 2! THE BEST. Everyone was so nice and we all basically talked and hung out – while running of course… 🙂
I have been wanting to go see the Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit for a long time and yesterday was the last day of the exhibit! After pace leading I showered, ate quickly and headed over to the Met. I did not want to sit for too long or I knew I would not get up… And I couldn’t miss it!
Surprisingly the museum wasn’t too busy. I get cranky very quickly when places are crowed (ie the subway). The exhibit was awesome and I was sad they didn’t have more clothing to showcase. I also went to the modern art wing and the european artists wing.
This was such a great weekend and honestly I’m not that upset that it’s Monday. I got so much done and accomplished this weekend that I’m ready to take on this week. Oh, and it probably also helps that my vacation begins next Wednesday!!!!
Since the start of the year I’ve made it a goal to try to beat my monthly miles from last year. February 2011 was the first month that I started using Dailymile – a site that tracks your workouts. Last February I logged 38 miles. As of today I’m at 37 miles! I’m a competitive person so I know I’m going to try my hardest to beat each month!
This weekend was really fun. I celebrated another friend of mine’s birthday (we just keep getting older!!) and the rest of the weekend was spent relaxing, cleaning and organizing.
(These pictures were taken with my new camera!!!)
Oh! And I found out my parents are coming to cheer me on at the Red Rock half-marathon!!! This was such a wonderful surprise!!! Now I have the best cheer squad! My friend Sarah and her boyfriend and my Mom and Dad. It’s going to be the best weekend ever!
Since I did not get my ten miler in on Sunday I woke up extra early today (5:15am) and hit the treadmill. Ten miles complete by 7:05am 🙂 Best Monday workout ever! I was a sweaty mess. I really don’t know how some girls at the gym look cute when they are working out. My face gets so red. It really perplexes me… I guess they aren’t running like a crazy person on the treadmill.
Oh and this happened.
YUM. Have you ever been to The Soft Serve Yogurt Company??? If not. YOU SHOULD. Ryan and I got one of their special sundaes and it was magical. It had banana soft serve, bananas, chocolate chips, pretzel bites, and peanut butter!
Happy Monday! I have a feeling I’m going to be in bed verrry early tonight!!! And Happy Early Valentine’s Day ❤

I’m back! I went ‘missing’ for awhile but I had a good reason. Running my first marathon and having fun with family and friends in Oregon.
Though my vacation was short, we fit so much fun into those days that I now need another vacation. But just where I sleep for many days.
Last Thursday I headed out to Oregon with a layover in Seattle. Of course the weather was a little cloudy but that is perfect running weather. Perfect MARATHON weather 🙂
Once I landed in Portland the fun began with a great lunch with my parents and Aunt from Louisiana and then off to meet up with my Grandma who flew in from Ohio and my other Aunt who lives in Portland. (A lot of people came to see me run!)
On Friday Ryan arrived from New York and Kristen from Nashville to complete the group. It was then off to the Marathon Expo to see all the great running gear and to get our numbers! We also got to meet up with my two friends, Sarah and Chloe who were running the half-marathon.
Here we are, super nervous for the big day!
Saturday was our day of errands and rest as the BIG DAY approached. I still can’t believe I ran a marathon… We all enjoyed a big pasta dinner at home and went to bed early. With a 4:30am wake up time we had to get as much sleep as possible.
5am on race day!
There will be many more photos and a full marathon re-cap once my Dad e-mails me all the photos 🙂 Get excited!!!
It’s taper time!!! Woke up bright and early (5:30am came a little too early this morning) and hit the gym for a three-mile run. I felt pretty good but was craving some coffee… This marathon excitement is not helping me get the sleep I want and need!
This morning I decided to take you all along for my morning walk to work. I try to take different streets to mix it up and really get to know my neighborhood. Today I came to the conclusion that New York might have more dogs than children.
Ah Park Avenue… Where the cost to live on this beloved street is about 3 million dollars…(probably more)
Madison Avenue – Fashion boutiques galore. Great people watching.
Two of my favorites in one shot. Bergdorf Goodman AND The Plaza Hotel. Love and love.
Can you see why walking to work is so much fun!? Great people watching, window shopping and I just love all the old architecture. Sometimes I really do love New York. (Oregon is still my favorite)
I didn’t run last night. Or this morning. Yesterday I was just too tired. Also, all this excitement surrounding the marathon has left me all antsy. And when I want to sleep I can’t! My brain won’t turn off. So last night’s sleep… I don’t even know if I slept at all. So that meant no 5:45am run. No way.
I’ve been trying to read for about an hour before bed to calm my excitement and get a little sleepy. It works but once the lights are off my brain does not want to go to sleep. I’m hoping from the lack of sleep last night and a run tonight I’ll be able to sleep. That would be nice.
I’m so tired… and my hair is kind of greasy…
I just want to take a nap… but I need to run
Portland here I come!!!!
“Running a marathon is like living life. It’s a long distance and a long journey. And you’ve got a lot of different things that can happen along the journey.” Clive Davies
PS- It totally feels like fall today!!!! My walk to work this morning was just perfect!! I see a pumpkin spiced latte in the very near future 🙂
My legs were still pretty sore this morning so I hit the elliptical for 45 minutes. No over training here!
I’m hoping to run a solid 5-6 miles tomorrow and then eight on Sunday. This tapering thing is kinda strange. No double-digit runs? Until the marathon??? Whatttt??? Exciting but scary all at the same time!
What else is going on?? Well, I’m still waiting for fall to arrive here in New York. All I want to do is order a Pumpkin Spice latte and walk around in the crisp, cool fall air. Is that too much to ask!?
It’s still humid. And I still walked to work this morning! Surprising. And guess what? I’m a more relaxed person. I’ve already been to the gym and walked almost two miles. All before 9am! That is pretty awesome!
Tonight I’m having a date night with Ryan (and Bailey the puppy). That’s exciting! Dog park, dinner and a movie. I couldn’t ask for anything better! (frozen yogurt trip???)
This week is speeding by and soon I’ll be waking up the morning of the marathon! Craziness!
Anyone else change something small in their lives and seeing great things happening??
It was tough to get up and out of bed this morning. When my alarm went off at 5:30am I was very tempted to just go back to sleep and get up at 7.
But I didn’t. I got up, put on my running stuff, crammed a handful of cereal in my mouth and hit the gym. 4 miles complete before 7am. I’m tired but I’m happy that I did it.
One reason for my tiredness… Watching Hart of Dixie last night on the CW. I love Rachel Bilson and I think this show is going to be one of my favorites. Anyone else watch last night???
As I mentioned in a post a few days ago, I’m listening to Gabrielle Bernstein lectures. I’ve ordered her books but I’m just waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Well, one of her focuses is finding your happiness. You are the only person that can make you happy. Get rid of the stuff that makes you sad, mad, or angry. So I’m trying to follow this.
One thing that makes me cranky is the subway during rush hour. The subway at rush hour makes me hate the human race. I know… that’s a really strong statement… But I truly feel like that sometimes. SO. In order to rid myself of this feeling I’ve been walking to and from work more often. And I love it. The walk from my apartment to work and vice versa is wonderful. I walk by Central Park, all the beautiful buildings, stores while listening to her lectures. I love it. I am then a happier person. See how easy it is to be a happier person? One small change can make you happier.
Totally off the subject of running, I know… Anyway. Happy Wednesday, keep running, working out, and striving to be better.
It was a busy, busy weekend!
Friday night we headed to Lucky Strike for some bowling.
We had so much fun and I really want to go back there again! How cool is that lamp?!
Everything about the place was cool. Atmosphere, music… I ordered an appetizer and it was really good, so I assume the dinner menu is good too.
We went with our friends from college, Amanda and Marc. I’m pretty sure they had a great time too.
Saturday Ryan and I just relaxed and played with Bailey. We went out to dinner at an Italian place by his apartment which was excellent. I really wanted good pasta before my 18 mile race and this place did just that. I was too busy eating to take any pictures…
Sunday morning came very fast and I was up at 5am. Eating toast and ready to go. For this race I tried out my Portland Marathon outfit – with rain gear if needed.
I look pretty dorky in this picture… I also used gels/GU in this race and I must say. They worked a lot better! The race went really well. I tried to keep my pace around 9:30 in the beginning and gradually sped up. I stopped at almost all the water stations and had three gels. The race was three of the 6 mile loops. That means I ran the Harlem Hill, or what I call DEATH MOUNTAIN three times!!! Three times!!!
My overall time was 2:44:02 – pace of 9:07!! I’m very happy with that!
This morning I hit the gym for my recovery session – 35 minutes on the elliptical and lots of stretching. My legs are feeling pretty good compared to the other long runs I’ve done in the past.

Yesterday after work I picked up my bib number and goody bag for the 18 mile Tune up. In the goody bag there was a cook book, shampoo, and men’s deodorant… (Ryan, I got you a present!) Instead of a shirt we got a towel which I thought was nice change from the usual race tee shirt. I have way too many race shirts already!
Though I had planned to run last night the cleaning bug hit me and I cleaned my room like crazy. No run but a clean room. I think it’s a good trade-off.
Since I didn’t get my miles in last night I woke up nice and early today.
It’s super dark at 5:40 in the morning! Mom – Dad, Don’t worry the gym is right around the corner.
I had a great four mile run and listened to a lecture by Gabrielle Bernstein. She’s great and I just bought her two books. I can’t wait to get them in the mail! If you need some inspiration or just more love (I know this sounds super corny) in your life check her out.
It was pretty difficult to get up this morning but I what made me haul myself out of bed was how great I was going to feel afterwards. Right now as I write this! 🙂
I find the quote below to be so true. Marathon training and the race is really about your mental toughness.
I know I will finish the Portland Marathon. It might not be fun and I might want to cry at times but when I cross that finish line I will be so happy and proud.
Always stay positive~ It makes life more fun and rewarding. I’m telling you, it works.
Is with a morning workout!
I woke up at 5:30 this morning and hit the treadmill! 6 miles done before 7am!!! I always forget how much I love working out in the morning until I’m there, in the gym working out… Even though it’s super hard to get out of bed some mornings the end result is awesome AND it also frees up my nights. It’s a win – win.
Something that does happen in the morning… workout outfits that don’t match… Green sports bar with a light pink tank top??? Sure… Why not?
Another plus about morning workouts – I actually have more time to eat breakfast and get ready for work. Surprising right? I had enough time today to make coffee and have a bowl of cereal!
We’re getting closer and closer to the marathon!!! I’m actually pretty nervous about the race this Sunday. I’m running it as a long-run (my last long run before the marathon!!!) so I keep telling myself that it’s not a big deal but then my competitive side chimes in and wants me to race. This is when my Garmin will help me to slow down and keep the pace I’m suppose to be at 🙂
