This morning I woke up and went to the gym. Lately I haven’t been good about getting to the gym before work and I’m so happy I pulled myself out of bed and went today!
Before the gym….
Then I drank some of this (coffee protein drink – love it) and felt awake and ready to go!
I got a great workout on the elliptical and felt awesome!!! (Still pretty excited about the Ducks big win)
I hadn’t been on an elliptical in a long time and it was great to mix up my workout. My legs are still pretty sore from the past workouts this week so I thought this would give them a good break.
After the gym and I had my Meta-D drink from the Tone It Up Plan… It doesn’t look pretty but it tastes pretty good and it boosts your metabolism. So why not?! Healthy and toned in 2012 here I come!
This weekend Ryan and I are going to New Jersey. My goal is to get a semi-long run in either Saturday or Sunday. Crossing my fingers I do it!!!
Anyone else use protein drinks??? I love Click. It really tastes like coffee!
How do you get to the gym in the morning?? What motivates you? Before the Portland Marathon I was so good about it! Now… not so much…

Man I was tired this morning. But I had decided last night that I would go to the gym in the morning so I did. Nothing coffee can’t fix! After my alarm went off I did lay in bed for about 20 minutes going back and forth – should I go to the gym… or should I just go back to sleep…
Last night I went to my first spin class since September! My legs were hurting the whole time but I loved it! The teacher was really upbeat and pushed the class and then music was just perfect. I’m definitely going to take her class again.
Because I did spinning last night, this morning’s workout was all about stretching, abs, and push ups. I rotated a ton of different exercises for about 35 minutes which helped to loosen up my sore muscles. It also was kind of nice to do something other than just cardio. I really do need to do more strength training.
PS – Come run with me!
It’s taper time!!! Woke up bright and early (5:30am came a little too early this morning) and hit the gym for a three-mile run. I felt pretty good but was craving some coffee… This marathon excitement is not helping me get the sleep I want and need!
This morning I decided to take you all along for my morning walk to work. I try to take different streets to mix it up and really get to know my neighborhood. Today I came to the conclusion that New York might have more dogs than children.
Ah Park Avenue… Where the cost to live on this beloved street is about 3 million dollars…(probably more)
Madison Avenue – Fashion boutiques galore. Great people watching.
Two of my favorites in one shot. Bergdorf Goodman AND The Plaza Hotel. Love and love.
Can you see why walking to work is so much fun!? Great people watching, window shopping and I just love all the old architecture. Sometimes I really do love New York. (Oregon is still my favorite)
Today has been great! I slept until 9am, read, enjoyed a NAKED Juice called Green Machine which is unbelievably good! Go try it! It has spinach in it! Super healthy. Did you know October is National Spinach Lover Month???
Another food item that I’m now addicted to. POP CHIPS. They are soooooo good. Go out and buy those too. You are welcome.
What made today wonderful, besides the green juice and pop chips at lunch… Getting my first PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE of the season! Woot! Woot! One bad thing – $4.30 for a TALL?! Really Starbucks????
After lunch, while enjoying my latte I was reading and this little one kept laying on my book. She does this all the time and when I’m using my laptop. I guess she wants to be right in the action??
Later on I hit the gym. I was all caffeined-up so I was excited to get running. I ran a solid 4.5 miles increasing my speed. I kept imagining the finish line at the marathon 🙂
After the gym guess what was waiting for me in our mailbox???? The NOVEMBER issue of Runner’s World!
I probably won’t be able to save it for the plane ride…
I didn’t run last night. Or this morning. Yesterday I was just too tired. Also, all this excitement surrounding the marathon has left me all antsy. And when I want to sleep I can’t! My brain won’t turn off. So last night’s sleep… I don’t even know if I slept at all. So that meant no 5:45am run. No way.
I’ve been trying to read for about an hour before bed to calm my excitement and get a little sleepy. It works but once the lights are off my brain does not want to go to sleep. I’m hoping from the lack of sleep last night and a run tonight I’ll be able to sleep. That would be nice.
I’m so tired… and my hair is kind of greasy…
I just want to take a nap… but I need to run
Portland here I come!!!!
“Running a marathon is like living life. It’s a long distance and a long journey. And you’ve got a lot of different things that can happen along the journey.” Clive Davies
PS- It totally feels like fall today!!!! My walk to work this morning was just perfect!! I see a pumpkin spiced latte in the very near future 🙂
Last night was really nice and relaxing. We played with the puppy at the dog park, enjoyed awesome sandwiches from one of our favorite delis, and watched some TV. I couldn’t have asked for a better Wednesday night. Did anyone else watch the drama in baseball unfold???
It’s was also fun to walk the couple blocks to the subway station with Ryan this morning. A lot more fun than walking to the subway alone! (I don’t know why our eyes are almost closed… I guess we were still sleepy??)
Tonight I’m planning on a little run in Central Park. I’m hoping the rain stays away and the humidity leaves town (forever).
Sometimes I get so nervous/excited about the marathon that I get all antsy and jittery. It might also be the coffee… Maybe I should hold off on the coffee until after the race. That might help. I even had a dream about my trip to Oregon last night! It wasn’t about the race, though. It was me and my whole family at dinner. I think I’m just as excited to see them as running the marathon 🙂 And seeing Kristen my running buddy and all my friends! There is so much to be excited about! Ahhh!
I have other news! I know I haven’t run Portland yet but I’ve picked out my next race! I’m going to run the Red Rock Canyon half marathon!!! It’s March 10th and I’m pretty darn excited. The photos are amazing.
The race and hotel I will be staying at is 20 minutes outside of Las Vegas. The hotel looks awesome and really pretty.
The course is pretty hilly and I’m up for the challenge! SkinnyRunner ran the marathon course last year and you can read her review HERE. Reading her review made me want to sign-up 🙂
What races are you training for?
Anyone else running Red Rock with me?

My legs were still pretty sore this morning so I hit the elliptical for 45 minutes. No over training here!
I’m hoping to run a solid 5-6 miles tomorrow and then eight on Sunday. This tapering thing is kinda strange. No double-digit runs? Until the marathon??? Whatttt??? Exciting but scary all at the same time!
What else is going on?? Well, I’m still waiting for fall to arrive here in New York. All I want to do is order a Pumpkin Spice latte and walk around in the crisp, cool fall air. Is that too much to ask!?
It’s still humid. And I still walked to work this morning! Surprising. And guess what? I’m a more relaxed person. I’ve already been to the gym and walked almost two miles. All before 9am! That is pretty awesome!
Tonight I’m having a date night with Ryan (and Bailey the puppy). That’s exciting! Dog park, dinner and a movie. I couldn’t ask for anything better! (frozen yogurt trip???)
This week is speeding by and soon I’ll be waking up the morning of the marathon! Craziness!
Anyone else change something small in their lives and seeing great things happening??
Is with a morning workout!
I woke up at 5:30 this morning and hit the treadmill! 6 miles done before 7am!!! I always forget how much I love working out in the morning until I’m there, in the gym working out… Even though it’s super hard to get out of bed some mornings the end result is awesome AND it also frees up my nights. It’s a win – win.
Something that does happen in the morning… workout outfits that don’t match… Green sports bar with a light pink tank top??? Sure… Why not?
Another plus about morning workouts – I actually have more time to eat breakfast and get ready for work. Surprising right? I had enough time today to make coffee and have a bowl of cereal!
We’re getting closer and closer to the marathon!!! I’m actually pretty nervous about the race this Sunday. I’m running it as a long-run (my last long run before the marathon!!!) so I keep telling myself that it’s not a big deal but then my competitive side chimes in and wants me to race. This is when my Garmin will help me to slow down and keep the pace I’m suppose to be at 🙂
Since I don’t have internet in my apartment yet I can’t blog on the weekends. So today’s blog is all about Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. I know. Woah three days. This is going to be a long post, right?! Not really… I didn’t do that much.
Friday – Friday I had a lovely little evening after work. I got my haircut. I love it. Got sushi, went to The Running Company for more GU Chomps and two pairs of shorts that I can use for both running and spin class and I went to Borders. Borders was really sad… The store in the Time Warner building is closing and it just looks so depressing. I did get really great deals on some books though. But still, super sad.
I got a bunch of layers and had the ends trimmed.
I love it… What do you think???
Saturday – LONG RUN DAY. I did not start until about 11am. Bad idea. It was hot outside. I got a little sunburn on my back… I ran 17 miles. Warm up and warm down was my last mile making a total of 18 miles. After that my legs were shot. Oh, and people were looking at me all weird again when I was walking home. YES. I know my face is super red. Thanks. You know, in Central Park I look pretty normal with all the other runners… But once I step outside of the park I look like a crazy person wearing spandex. I’m surprised a tourist didn’t snap a photo of me. Labeled – Crazy spandex lady. I did a lot of workouts last week, including my first spin class and I think my legs were mad at me. Saturday night I watched The Social Network. That’s about it. After running 17+ miles what more do you want from me?
Sunday – Went to the gym for a little recovery session. (Wearing my compression socks all night really helped my legs feel better on Sunday!) 30 minutes on the elliptical. I can’t remember the last time I used that machine. It was nice and my legs felt good. I then got coffee with a friend and we walked around my new neighborhood 🙂 And I painted one of the walls in our living room. It’s pretty.
I slept a lot this weekend and it was great.
Today – This morning I went to 6am spin class. I’m addicted yes. It’s so fun and the music is awesome! I’m really feeling it in my legs though. Like woah. Sore. Tonight I’m hanging out with Ryan (boyfriend). He was on a guys trip for five days going to various baseball games. (I’m glad I wasn’t invited) I’m excited to see him! (I wonder if he got me a present…)
Have you ever taken a spin class??? Did you love it? hate it? Get addicted like me???

Friday after work I was on puppy duty so Bailey and I went to the dog park to see her friends. It’s really crazy how she’s like a little celebrity! After the fun at the dog park it was time for my 14 MILE RUN. This farthest I have ever run in my life! And I did it! At times it was pretty miserable but I finished and never walked.
I also used NUUN for the first time and I am a fan! Before, during, and after races I have been drinking Vitamin Water. I love the energy flavor. But, it’s loaded with sugar… NUUN replaces your lost electrolytes without any sugar. And they have a ton of great flavors. I tried the berry one 🙂
When I got back to Ryan’s apartment I had a glorious dinner (a huge sandwich and bbq chips) and lots of water. I did stretch and ice my knees and shins. Ice really does help with muscle fatigue. Oh, and I had to be ready for my 4 mile race the next morning… Great planning on my part…
Living in New York you are never know what you will see. These two lovely ladies were on the train with me at 7am… It looks like they had a wonderful Friday night.
There were tons of people at the race! The weather was beautiful but a tad hot… What also made this race great was my friend Ashley had also signed up for the race so I was able to see and catch up with her! We also got a photo together which I will hopefully get sometime this week!
I really did not have any goals for this race except to finish and get one step closer to my 9 + 1 NYC Marathon goal. Running 14 miles the night before can make your legs pretty darn tried. Though I was nervous at the start I surprised myself and finished the race in 32:05, which is a 8:02 pace. Not bad for sore, tired legs!
After the race it was time for some relaxation and fun with Bailey and Ryan. There’s nothing wrong with watching TV for three+ hours, going to the dog park, and then going to sushi (date night!!). I say that’s a perfect Saturday.
Sunday we enjoyed a lovely brunch at my favorite Belgium/French restaurant. We also got to see some friends from college which was a nice reunion. I forgot how wonderful those people are!
Once we got back into the city Ryan and I took Bailey to the dog park late night (9:30pm) for some fun – we needed her tired so she’d sleep through the night!
As you can guess I’m exhausted from this weekend! And tonight I have a Core Fusion class at Exhale…
Sleep? What’s that???
