I’m so excited! Remember how I told you about that pop up workout class I took after the FITNESS 4 mile race last weekend???
Well, yesterday on GILT (web site with deals and sales) Pure Barre NYC was on it and the classes were like half off!! I bought the ten pack of classes and I’m going to take my first class next Monday!
This will be great cross training and will help with my lack of stretching and maybe I’ll get some arm muscles! 🙂
I haven’t run yet this week… I did go on the elliptical last night for 30 minutes and did a bunch of weights. Maybe tonight I’ll run???
On my walk home yesterday (the 6 train had delays…) I came across these two cuties.
They reminded me so much of me and my Dad. Every Saturday morning in the summer we would go to the farmer’s market. Part of this ritual was picking out flowers. This father daughter duo were so cute carrying their flowers it made me miss home and my Mom and Dad! Even though it made me a little sad – it also brought a smile to my face.
After my leisurely walk home I had a quick dinner, headed to volunteering and then, since I didn’t do my long run on Sunday, went to the gym. I’m suppose to cross train on Monday nights but I never do it. I decided since I missed my long run I HAD to cross train. I watched The Closer on the elliptical and the time flew by! I love that show and I’m so sad it’s ending…
Tonight – Speed-work with the Flyers!
This morning I woke up and went to the gym. Lately I haven’t been good about getting to the gym before work and I’m so happy I pulled myself out of bed and went today!

Then I drank some of this (coffee protein drink – love it) and felt awake and ready to go!
I got a great workout on the elliptical and felt awesome!!! (Still pretty excited about the Ducks big win)
I hadn’t been on an elliptical in a long time and it was great to mix up my workout. My legs are still pretty sore from the past workouts this week so I thought this would give them a good break.
After the gym and I had my Meta-D drink from the Tone It Up Plan… It doesn’t look pretty but it tastes pretty good and it boosts your metabolism. So why not?! Healthy and toned in 2012 here I come!
This weekend Ryan and I are going to New Jersey. My goal is to get a semi-long run in either Saturday or Sunday. Crossing my fingers I do it!!!
Anyone else use protein drinks??? I love Click. It really tastes like coffee!
How do you get to the gym in the morning?? What motivates you? Before the Portland Marathon I was so good about it! Now… not so much…

Man I was tired this morning. But I had decided last night that I would go to the gym in the morning so I did. Nothing coffee can’t fix! After my alarm went off I did lay in bed for about 20 minutes going back and forth – should I go to the gym… or should I just go back to sleep…
Last night I went to my first spin class since September! My legs were hurting the whole time but I loved it! The teacher was really upbeat and pushed the class and then music was just perfect. I’m definitely going to take her class again.
Because I did spinning last night, this morning’s workout was all about stretching, abs, and push ups. I rotated a ton of different exercises for about 35 minutes which helped to loosen up my sore muscles. It also was kind of nice to do something other than just cardio. I really do need to do more strength training.

Runner’s World magazine had this awesome article that I just had to tell you all about. Did you know that September is MONSTER MONTH for me??? Yeah, I didn’t know this either…
Apparently, if you’re running a 1/2 marathon or full marathon in the fall, most likely September is going to be your most difficult month of training. aka – Your Monster Month.
I thought the article was super helpful so I’ve broken down some of my favorite points for you:
1) Don’t Over Train: Listen to your body. If it yells at you to stop. Stop. This month will be your highest mileage so you’ll be walking a fine line… You don’t want to get injured.
2) Treat your Feet: Wear the right shoes! Go and get the right shoes for you. I went and had my stride analyzed. It made all the difference in the world! Paying $100 for shoes that won’t make your knees/back/shins/etc. hurt are worth it!
3) Do a Dress Rehearsal: Treat one of your long runs as the day of the race. Wake up early, eat the breakfast you plan to eat, wear the clothes you plan to wear. Try to simulate everything so you’re ready for race day. This will also help you be less nervous and work out any kinks.
4) Cross out Cross-Training: SAD. I didn’t know this… The last month before your race you should only be running. Because of the high mileage you’ll be running more exercise, like cross-training won’t help – you’ll just be more prone to injury. No spinning class for me… 😦
5) Boost your Immunity: Fruits and vegetables!!! Eat lots of them. This is the worst month to eat sick in your training. Sleep lots, and eat healthy.
6) Live in the Present: To stay motivated concentrate on each training day not the whole month. You’ll get too overwhelmed. After each training run you should be proud. You’re just one step closer to the finish line.
There’s more advice in the article and I really recommend reading it! I feel less nervous and scared about the race now!

Yesterday I was suppose to run ten miles. My legs wouldn’t have it. They were still tired from last week and my 17 mile run on Saturday. I ran for two miles and then did the spin bike for ten minutes. I also have been neglecting weight training so I did 50 push ups with ab exercises as a break between the sets of push ups.
After the gym I slipped on my recovery socks and slept in them too to try and help. My legs do feel better today so maybe I’ll keep wearing the socks at night and when I sleep.
I also need to be ready for Saturday’s run. So this week, to avoid the dreaded BURNOUT I’m scaling back. I’ll be on the ellipical machine, maybe run 2 – 3 miles, do some weight training…
I just want and need my legs to be fresh and ready for Saturday. If they are tired there is no way on earth I’ll be able to complete 20 miles. So that’s my plan.
Also! Exciting news! Kristen my Running Buddy from Nashville is coming to New York! Tomorrow! And staying with me and my roommate! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait!!!
I’ve got off to a great start last night with a 5 mile run on the treadmill. I felt pretty good during the run, minus the odd stomach ache type feeling I had… I think it was something I ate at lunch. Not fun but felt good after the run was over.
Tonight my plan is to run ten miles. I signed up to run with a running group based out of the store The Running Company. I’m kinda nervous. I hope they’re nice! haha I feel like it might be like the first day at a new school.
I’m also really trying to put in the effort to cross-training more often. With so many classes at New York Sports Club there is no way I can’t. Last Sunday I took a yoga class and tomorrow morning I’m going to my first spinning class. I’ve never really been that great on a bike but so many people rave about spinning classes that I just have to try it out. And the class is free with my membership so why not?!
Can you believe it’s already Wednesday! yikes. One day closer to my next long run!
