One of the best long weekends I’ve had in a long time. Super relaxing and fun. Perfect weather in the mid-60s!
Because of the great weather we took a walk to the beach after eating dinner. Played some football and tried to skip rocks on the water. Some were more successful than others. Bailey loved the beach and all the sand!
The walk helped clear space for dessert. Since there was about eight different types to choose from we needed all the stomach space we could get…
After all that eating, relaxing and a little bit of Christmas shopping I needed to get a good run in. (Ryan and I did get a mile run in with some sprints at the end on Friday which made me happy. He wasn’t so thrilled…) Sunday I hit Central Park and did the 6 mile loop. Including Death Mountain. The weather was perfect and there were tons of people out so the time flew by. I didn’t bring my iPod. I think it’s best used at the gym when running on the treadmill can get super boring.
How was your Thanksgiving??? Awesome!!! Such great food and fun!!!
Anyone run any races??? I didn’t race this past weekend but I have a 5 miler this coming Sunday!
It was a busy, busy weekend!
Friday night we headed to Lucky Strike for some bowling.
We had so much fun and I really want to go back there again! How cool is that lamp?!
Everything about the place was cool. Atmosphere, music… I ordered an appetizer and it was really good, so I assume the dinner menu is good too.
We went with our friends from college, Amanda and Marc. I’m pretty sure they had a great time too.
Saturday Ryan and I just relaxed and played with Bailey. We went out to dinner at an Italian place by his apartment which was excellent. I really wanted good pasta before my 18 mile race and this place did just that. I was too busy eating to take any pictures…
Sunday morning came very fast and I was up at 5am. Eating toast and ready to go. For this race I tried out my Portland Marathon outfit – with rain gear if needed.
I look pretty dorky in this picture… I also used gels/GU in this race and I must say. They worked a lot better! The race went really well. I tried to keep my pace around 9:30 in the beginning and gradually sped up. I stopped at almost all the water stations and had three gels. The race was three of the 6 mile loops. That means I ran the Harlem Hill, or what I call DEATH MOUNTAIN three times!!! Three times!!!
My overall time was 2:44:02 – pace of 9:07!! I’m very happy with that!
This morning I hit the gym for my recovery session – 35 minutes on the elliptical and lots of stretching. My legs are feeling pretty good compared to the other long runs I’ve done in the past.

I didn’t realize how much I love running in Central Park until last night.
Recently I had been enjoying running at gym – out of the heat and humidity. And right around the corner from my apartment.
However, last night the weather was just too perfect not to run outside. So I walked to Central Park from my apartment (around .60 miles) and then ran the 6 mile loop (Death Mountain included) and continued my run back to my apartment. I totaled seven miles and was extremely happy.
Before stepping outside to run – I had, had a full work day and then went and took the puppy out and played with her… Needless to say the last thing I wanted to do was go and run eight miles. I was just tired.
But I talked to my roommate Danielle and she gave me a pep talk and we decided I should just go run and see how I feel. Getting two or three miles in is way better that none. And to my surprise I was able to run seven! And the only reason I didn’t push to eight miles was because it was getting dark and I didn’t want to get lost (or get bug bites)… I haven’t been living there that long!
All and all I’m very happy that I pushed myself and ran. I had fun running and was so happy to be back in the park.
I’m pretty tired from this week and I can’t wait to sleep in tomorrow… Oh, and run 18 miles on Sunday!
To those people who were wondering – the photo from yesterday of me and Danielle is from our Senior year at Marist. We were just climbing out of our friends window… no big deal 🙂
It was a beautiful day in the City yesterday so I just had to run after work (it was also on the schedule, so I really did have to run). I ran the 6 mile loop and tacked on another mile at the end to complete my 7 miler for the week. Though it was pretty hot out and I had to battle Death Mountain, I had a great run and felt great afterwards!
I’m going to run four miles on Friday and then I have the Father’s Day/Portugal Run on Sunday! The race is five miles and I’m hoping to run another four miles afterwards to create my long run for the week. Lots of running going on here. and lots more to come
I’m also hoping to finally upload my Marathon Training Plan this weekend… I’ve created a tab (look up on the top of the screen) so that’s where you will be able to keep track of my training.
It also feels like today should be Friday… Anyone else???? yes? no?
Last night’s run in Central Park went great!
Surprisingly there weren’t too many people in the park and it wasn’t too hot. I did the 6 mile loop that includes Death Mountain. And guess what!? Death Mountain wasn’t so killer this time! I mean, it was still hard, but not as horrible as the last time. I love seeing improvement in my running. It makes me feel good and that all this training and hard work is actually paying off. Hooray!
Tonight is date night with Ryan and Bailey so I woke up early and ran an easy 2 mile run on the treadmill. Since I’ve started to run outside consistently I’ve really come to dread running inside. It’s a total bore.
Oh, and guess what we’re having for dinner tonight??? Yup, you guessed it!!! Sushi! Do you think I can convince Ryan to take me to frozen yogurt for dessert???
What’s your favorite flavor of frozen yogurt??? I love them all but right now I would have to say red velvet cake…
Yesterday was my 8 miler.
It was sunny, and I think it got up to 80 degrees! However, running in warm weather is pretty difficult. I didn’t know how hard it was. Oh, and I chose to do the more difficult loop in Central Park. The one with all the hills… I’m telling you, one of the “hills” should totally be called Death Mountain. But, I didn’t stop and kept trucking along until the end. My time was 1:11, meaning I had a pace of 8:52.
I was a sweaty mess… I must buy dry-fit tops. Anyone have any recommendations??? Right now I really just have cold weather running clothes or cotton t-shirts I’ve gotten from the races I’ve run. Cotton is NOT good in hot weather.
After my run I was getting all my stuff together and saw myself in a mirror… Not a pretty sight. My face was as red as a tomato. I looked like I was dying. But I really didn’t feel too tired… My tomato face didn’t subside until about 20 minutes after my run. I bet people in the subway were wondering if I had a sunburn. Nope, I just ran up Death Mountain, don’t worry about it!
All in all it was a great run with great people watching. I’m really proud and after yesterday I know the half will be no problem. The course is flat so I figure if I can run Death Mountain I can conquer the Long Branch Half-Marathon 🙂
PS – To celebrate my running success I ate tons and tons of sushi and went to bed early. It was a great night…
