Last night’s speed session was super difficult. I was the slowest person. But I loved it.
I have never sprinted in my life. Sure, at the end of a race I speed up to finish, but I’ve never been like tonight I’m doing sprints.
Last night our running group did 4 X 600s in Central Park. This means we ran 600 meters fast four times. We did get a two-minute break between each was the best thing ever. In total we ran about 5 1/2 miles. Two mile warm up, 4 X 600s and a two-mile cool down.
I’m going to go back next Monday. Everyone said it gets easier and is a great way to mix up my training.
If you’ve ever thought about joining a running group and haven’t done so yet I highly advise going or signing up! I was nervous the first time I went but everyone was so nice and welcoming. Running with a group will push you to go faster and run farther. And learn new things! —> 4 X 600s for me! So far I’ve met some really nice people and we get snacks at the end of every run. 🙂 Which makes me a happy girl.
PS – I miss spin class
This weekend flew by.
We didn’t end up going to New Jersey and were able to enjoy the city and the nice weather. Saturday I joined the running group at The Running Company for a 5 1/2 mile run through Central Park and later hung out with Ryan and Bailey the puppy. The run was kind of difficult for me. It was the mix of the humid weather and my tired legs from the week before. I felt like I was running so slow.
Saturday night was really fun with pizza eating, Oregon football watching, going to the dog park, napping and hanging out with friends from college. We stayed up well past my bedtime and I spent Sunday lounging around reading The Help. I wanted to run but in the end reading won.
It was a great football weekend! The Ducks won and so did the Jets. Bailey was the best fan though, in her little jersey!
Tonight I’m going to go to my first speed session with The Running Company. I’ve heard it’s pretty hard so I’m kind of nervous! I’ll give you all a full report tomorrow.

The past two days I’ve felt a little off… My stomach has not been feeling too great so I haven’t run since Saturday. Which is okay, since my body does need time to recover. I’m hoping to feel better by tonight since I have my running group. I really want to run tonight. So everyone cross their fingers that I’m all better and not really sick.
I just started The Help. Super good. Love it. Even though we just got cable and internet installed I haven’t been using either. I just read. I know I’m probably the last person to read The Help, but if you haven’t, go buy it!
A bowl of peaches makes for a wonderful reading snack.
And now… For what you all have been waiting for!!!!
The Giveaway winner is….
Random.org picked you as the winner!! Hooray! Congrats! E-mail me your address 🙂
– Has anyone else read The Help??? Did you like it??
– What’s your workout tonight??
For some reason I’m a little cranky today… It’s beauty outside, work is going well, I’m wearing a cute outfit… But I’m not in the best mood. And I don’t know why.
Last night’s four mile run went well. I even threw in push-ups and some ab exercises. It took a while for my legs to warm up and actually enjoy running. About three miles. Yes, out of the four I ran only the last mile felt good. That 70’s Show made the run go by quickly.
Tonight I’m going to join The Running Company for their group run. We’ll be running five miles. (Maybe endorphins will put me back in a better mood.) Then I think no more running until Saturday. Maybe do the elliptical tomorrow but I really need “fresh” legs for the 20 miler on Saturday.
That’s about it for now.
One more thing… I really like spin class. The only thing is that my legs are tired the next day to run 10+ miles. So I can only go to the class once a week. Which is annoying because I really like it but I can’t over train because that means I’ll get injured or my legs will fall off. After the marathon I’m for sure going to ease up on my mileage and take more spin classes. They’re just so much fun!
Okay, now I’m done.
Since I don’t have internet in my apartment yet I can’t blog on the weekends. So today’s blog is all about Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. I know. Woah three days. This is going to be a long post, right?! Not really… I didn’t do that much.
Friday – Friday I had a lovely little evening after work. I got my haircut. I love it. Got sushi, went to The Running Company for more GU Chomps and two pairs of shorts that I can use for both running and spin class and I went to Borders. Borders was really sad… The store in the Time Warner building is closing and it just looks so depressing. I did get really great deals on some books though. But still, super sad.
I got a bunch of layers and had the ends trimmed.
I love it… What do you think???
Saturday – LONG RUN DAY. I did not start until about 11am. Bad idea. It was hot outside. I got a little sunburn on my back… I ran 17 miles. Warm up and warm down was my last mile making a total of 18 miles. After that my legs were shot. Oh, and people were looking at me all weird again when I was walking home. YES. I know my face is super red. Thanks. You know, in Central Park I look pretty normal with all the other runners… But once I step outside of the park I look like a crazy person wearing spandex. I’m surprised a tourist didn’t snap a photo of me. Labeled – Crazy spandex lady. I did a lot of workouts last week, including my first spin class and I think my legs were mad at me. Saturday night I watched The Social Network. That’s about it. After running 17+ miles what more do you want from me?
Sunday – Went to the gym for a little recovery session. (Wearing my compression socks all night really helped my legs feel better on Sunday!) 30 minutes on the elliptical. I can’t remember the last time I used that machine. It was nice and my legs felt good. I then got coffee with a friend and we walked around my new neighborhood 🙂 And I painted one of the walls in our living room. It’s pretty.
I slept a lot this weekend and it was great.
Today – This morning I went to 6am spin class. I’m addicted yes. It’s so fun and the music is awesome! I’m really feeling it in my legs though. Like woah. Sore. Tonight I’m hanging out with Ryan (boyfriend). He was on a guys trip for five days going to various baseball games. (I’m glad I wasn’t invited) I’m excited to see him! (I wonder if he got me a present…)
Have you ever taken a spin class??? Did you love it? hate it? Get addicted like me???

Holy Moly I love Spinning! I now know why everyone is obsessed with taking spin classes! They are so fun and such a great workout! The music pumps you up and you just pedal and pedal.
Okay, I got a little ahead of myself…
Last night I went on a 5 mile (ten miles didn’t happen) group run with The Running Company. It was really fun and everyone was super nice.
So far with my training I’ve been a little anti-social. I truly love running by myself. But I decided I needed to branch out and meet other people who like running as much as I do. (I think Ryan (boyfriend) is a little tired of me rambling on and on about my training.) Well, I found my fellow running-obsessive friends and they meet three times a week! I’ll be going back next Wednesday night 🙂
Back to Spin Class – Then this morning I went to spin class at 6:30am. Like you all know, I was kind of nervous about going. I even bought those padded bike shorts because I read that some people could hardly walk after their first class… I’ve also had a horrible past with bikes – running into fences, falling off, crashing my bike… I’m just not great on a bike.
But I’d heard so much great stuff about spinning (and the bike is stationary) so I thought I could do it. And I did! And loved it.
When I arrived I told the instructor that this was my first time and she taught me a little about the bike and how to adjust the seat. The girl next to me was really nice and helped me too. All in all my first spin class was a success and I think I’m going to make Thursday mornings my spin class morning.
I know this post is super happy and all excited… The endorphins from this morning must still be in my system…
I’ve got off to a great start last night with a 5 mile run on the treadmill. I felt pretty good during the run, minus the odd stomach ache type feeling I had… I think it was something I ate at lunch. Not fun but felt good after the run was over.
Tonight my plan is to run ten miles. I signed up to run with a running group based out of the store The Running Company. I’m kinda nervous. I hope they’re nice! haha I feel like it might be like the first day at a new school.
I’m also really trying to put in the effort to cross-training more often. With so many classes at New York Sports Club there is no way I can’t. Last Sunday I took a yoga class and tomorrow morning I’m going to my first spinning class. I’ve never really been that great on a bike but so many people rave about spinning classes that I just have to try it out. And the class is free with my membership so why not?!
Can you believe it’s already Wednesday! yikes. One day closer to my next long run!
