On my walk home yesterday (the 6 train had delays…) I came across these two cuties.
They reminded me so much of me and my Dad. Every Saturday morning in the summer we would go to the farmer’s market. Part of this ritual was picking out flowers. This father daughter duo were so cute carrying their flowers it made me miss home and my Mom and Dad! Even though it made me a little sad – it also brought a smile to my face.
After my leisurely walk home I had a quick dinner, headed to volunteering and then, since I didn’t do my long run on Sunday, went to the gym. I’m suppose to cross train on Monday nights but I never do it. I decided since I missed my long run I HAD to cross train. I watched The Closer on the elliptical and the time flew by! I love that show and I’m so sad it’s ending…
Tonight – Speed-work with the Flyers!
This past weekend was fun and exhausting.
Ryan and I headed to New Jersey on Friday and stayed through until Sunday. His parents and neighbors throw a huge Fourth of July party each year. This past weekend was the weekend for the celebration.
The major accomplishment I’m proud of during my time in New Jersey was getting up early and going to the gym to run the eight miles on my training log. I wasn’t feeling up to it, but I made myself go and it was one of the best runs I’ve had in a long time. Running on the treadmill can be so awful and boring but this time around it was a breeze. I watched some bad reality TV and I just ticked the miles off one by one.
After the gym it was party time. Me being such a great blogger I am, took no photographs of the party… oops.
This week’s goal: Get in all my training runs. Should be pretty easy right? Except for the fact that I’m going to Atlantic City on Saturday… Wish me luck! In running… not gambling… (Wish Ryan luck in gambling)
This morning I still didn’t feel too hot but I got up and went to the gym. I knew running wouldn’t the be best so I hit the elliptical for 45 minutes while watching TV. Let me tell you. Watching both the morning news and Bravo makes time pass so quickly! The Real Housewives of Orange County are fabulous at 6am. It was such a relaxing morning workout 🙂
Maybe this morning thing is starting to grow on me…
It was tough to get up and out of bed this morning. When my alarm went off at 5:30am I was very tempted to just go back to sleep and get up at 7.
But I didn’t. I got up, put on my running stuff, crammed a handful of cereal in my mouth and hit the gym. 4 miles complete before 7am. I’m tired but I’m happy that I did it.
One reason for my tiredness… Watching Hart of Dixie last night on the CW. I love Rachel Bilson and I think this show is going to be one of my favorites. Anyone else watch last night???
As I mentioned in a post a few days ago, I’m listening to Gabrielle Bernstein lectures. I’ve ordered her books but I’m just waiting for them to arrive in the mail. Well, one of her focuses is finding your happiness. You are the only person that can make you happy. Get rid of the stuff that makes you sad, mad, or angry. So I’m trying to follow this.
One thing that makes me cranky is the subway during rush hour. The subway at rush hour makes me hate the human race. I know… that’s a really strong statement… But I truly feel like that sometimes. SO. In order to rid myself of this feeling I’ve been walking to and from work more often. And I love it. The walk from my apartment to work and vice versa is wonderful. I walk by Central Park, all the beautiful buildings, stores while listening to her lectures. I love it. I am then a happier person. See how easy it is to be a happier person? One small change can make you happier.
Totally off the subject of running, I know… Anyway. Happy Wednesday, keep running, working out, and striving to be better.
Yesterday, after work I just wanted to eat. My legs were still a little sore and I just didn’t really feel up to working out. I knew I would be disappointed in myself if I didn’t go though. So, I had myself a little snack and went to the gym.
I ran three miles on the treadmill and then hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes and watched Housewives of Beverly Hills. The time flew by. I love that show.
After my workout my legs felt a lot better. Not sore at all. Strange how running on sore legs helps combat the soreness…
No sore legs here!!!
Afterwards I had the best dinner. Corn chowder, fresh bread, brie and a little Jersey Shore action on TV. I know the show is horrible but I haven’t had TV in a month!
And for dessert!!! An ice cream sandwich! One thing about this ice cream sandwich… It’s made by the SkinnyCow brand.
When I went to store to pick up food for my lovely dinner I really wanted to buy ice cream bars, specifically the Dove ones. They’re really good. However, the store by my apartment only has healthy ice cream bars or “snack size” bars… If I’m going to have dessert I’m going to have dessert. I don’t want snack size. So I ended up with these ice cream sandwiches that are healthy-ish for you and don’t really have a taste to them…
I’m going to try to run tonight but Ryan and I may or may not be going to New Jersey… Saturday and Sunday I’ll definitely run. I have to get my miles in!
Happy Friday 🙂
Last nights run with The Running Company was hard. We ran the usual five miles but my legs were still tired from Saturday. And they’re pretty sore today. I slept in my Recovery Socks and I’m now wearing them at work. These little legs of mine need to shape up and feel better!
In order to get my muscles feeling great again I picked up some blueberries and peaches at the store. Antioxidants from the blueberries will for sure help and the peaches… Well, I just really love them. I ate a bunch of the blueberries last night as my dessert and watched the Wonder Years and Doogie Howser. It was awesome. I felt like I was ten years old again.
This morning, with my legs still aching I decided to make some toast with peanut butter (protein and carbs) and chocolate milk (calcium). I’m full and feeling good.
Now, if only my legs would get the memo. It’s time to stop being sore! Maybe I’ll hop on the elliptical tonight and stretch a ton… Maybe that’ll help 🙂
Anyone else watch The Wonder Years and Doogie Howser when they were younger??
What’s your workout tonight??
Since I don’t have internet in my apartment yet I can’t blog on the weekends. So today’s blog is all about Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. I know. Woah three days. This is going to be a long post, right?! Not really… I didn’t do that much.
Friday – Friday I had a lovely little evening after work. I got my haircut. I love it. Got sushi, went to The Running Company for more GU Chomps and two pairs of shorts that I can use for both running and spin class and I went to Borders. Borders was really sad… The store in the Time Warner building is closing and it just looks so depressing. I did get really great deals on some books though. But still, super sad.
I got a bunch of layers and had the ends trimmed.
I love it… What do you think???
Saturday – LONG RUN DAY. I did not start until about 11am. Bad idea. It was hot outside. I got a little sunburn on my back… I ran 17 miles. Warm up and warm down was my last mile making a total of 18 miles. After that my legs were shot. Oh, and people were looking at me all weird again when I was walking home. YES. I know my face is super red. Thanks. You know, in Central Park I look pretty normal with all the other runners… But once I step outside of the park I look like a crazy person wearing spandex. I’m surprised a tourist didn’t snap a photo of me. Labeled – Crazy spandex lady. I did a lot of workouts last week, including my first spin class and I think my legs were mad at me. Saturday night I watched The Social Network. That’s about it. After running 17+ miles what more do you want from me?
Sunday – Went to the gym for a little recovery session. (Wearing my compression socks all night really helped my legs feel better on Sunday!) 30 minutes on the elliptical. I can’t remember the last time I used that machine. It was nice and my legs felt good. I then got coffee with a friend and we walked around my new neighborhood 🙂 And I painted one of the walls in our living room. It’s pretty.
I slept a lot this weekend and it was great.
Today – This morning I went to 6am spin class. I’m addicted yes. It’s so fun and the music is awesome! I’m really feeling it in my legs though. Like woah. Sore. Tonight I’m hanging out with Ryan (boyfriend). He was on a guys trip for five days going to various baseball games. (I’m glad I wasn’t invited) I’m excited to see him! (I wonder if he got me a present…)
Have you ever taken a spin class??? Did you love it? hate it? Get addicted like me???
